38 Duke Lacrosse Team Members Unite to Sue Duke University and City of Durham Over Corrupt 2006 Rape Allegations and Investigation
WASHINGTON, Feb. 21 – 38 members of the 2006 Duke men’s lacrosse team filed suit against Duke University, University officials, the City of Durham, and city officials. The suit was filed for emotional distress and other injuries resulting from the false rape case and investigation that took place in 2006.
The lawyers representing the players say the University turned its back on the players to protect its own image. Nifong couldn’t be named in the lawsuit because of the protections from the federal bankruptcy law. However, the lawyers say the City of Durham needs to be held responsible for Nifong’s wrong-doing.
